On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins traded two former Capitals, Eric Fehr and Steve Oleksy, along with a fourth-round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Frank Corrado.
Despite the Penguins putting Fehr on waivers the day before, the Leafs are hoping the veteran can help them secure a playoff spot.
According to The Athletic’s James Mirtle, Fehr will wear Brooks Laich’s former number, no. 23. I’m going to go ahead and take this to mean that Laich will be buried in the AHL for the rest of the season.
Eric Fehr will wear No. 23 for the Leafs. Last worn by Brooks Laich.

Here’s a bad photoshop of how Eric Fehr will look as a Leaf. Yes, it’s super weird.
Meanwhile, Oleksy will report to the Toronto Marlies, reuniting with former teammate Laich.
The Leafs also traded for Brian Boyle from Tampa Bay. In return, the Leafs sent a 2017 second-round pick and forward Byron Froese to the Lightning.
